Rebecca has choreographed winning routines for high school, middle school, and elementary drill teams, earning 1st and 2nd place awards, as well as Grand Champion, Champion Circle, and Judges’ Awards.
Artistic statement
Dance, in its many forms, calls to me, weaving together the structured grace of ballet, the high energy of jazz, and the expressiveness of modern. Yet, it is contemporary dance that has captured my attention, balancing technical precision with a freedom that feels boundless. It is a form that blends the best of what I’ve loved in every style and explored—a discipline and release. Contemporary dance, with its dramatic climax and soothing stillness, mirrors the ebb and flow of emotion. It offers a canvas upon which I can paint stories, not with words, but with movement. As a choreographer, my creations come from emotions from deep within, where emotions and narratives intertwine. Each piece I craft is an invitation for the audience to step into my world, to feel the joy, the pain, and the beauty that only dance can convey. As a performer, my goal is to communicate without speaking—to make my audience feel what I feel, see what I see. Dance has always been my language when words fall short, my means of self-expression when I cannot express myself otherwise. Through movement, I tell stories that resonate across boundaries, reaching out to stir the hearts of those watching.
Teaching statement
As a dance educator, my mission is to create a nurturing and stimulating environment that enables my students to grow both as dancers and individuals. I am committed to helping each student reach their fullest potential by guiding them through the technical, artistic, and expressive aspects of dance. My approach centers on the idea that growth begins with a strong foundation. By focusing on the fundamentals of ballet, jazz, and modern dance, I teach students the importance of mastering basic techniques before progressing to more advanced skills. This step-by-step method ensures that students develop not only their technical abilities but also an understanding of discipline, patience, and persistence—qualities that are essential both in and out of the dance studio. One of my primary goals as a teacher is to empower my students to explore the full potential of their bodies in movement. I emphasize the importance of correct form and alignment, helping students understand how to execute each movement with intention and purpose. Dance is not just about what we do with our bodies, but how we do it. I aim to guide my students in becoming mindful of their physicality—teaching them to engage with specific muscles, understand the mechanics of movement, and use their bodies efficiently to express various emotions and ideas. However, technique alone does not define a dancer. Dance is an art form that transcends the purely physical; it is a medium of self-expression and storytelling. I encourage my students to listen to the music, not only in terms of rhythm and timing but also in its emotional resonance. Through this connection to music, I help students explore the vast possibilities of movement, allowing them to express themselves in ways that words often cannot capture. By integrating emotional depth and intention into their dancing, my students learn to convey complex ideas and narratives through their performances, transforming their movements into a language that speaks to the audience. Furthermore, I am passionate about fostering an environment where creativity thrives. While I provide structure and guidance in the form of technique, I also encourage my students to explore their own artistic voices. I believe that dance should not be confined to set steps and patterns but should allow for personal interpretation and experimentation. I invite my students to explore the space around them, move freely, and push beyond their comfort zones. By giving them the tools to explore their individuality within the context of dance, I aim to inspire them to think creatively and develop their own unique style. It is also my responsibility as a teacher to help students understand that dance is not merely about physical movement but a powerful form of communication. Through dance, we can convey emotions, stories, and ideas that go beyond what is possible through verbal expression. I strive to instill in my students a deep appreciation for dance as an art form, one that requires emotional and intellectual engagement as much as physical skill. Whether they are performing on stage, in the studio, or even in their daily lives, I want my students to understand the transformative power of dance—the way it can inspire, heal, and connect us to others. My goal as a teacher is not only to shape skilled dancers but to cultivate thoughtful, creative, and confident individuals who carry the lessons of dance into all aspects of their lives. By fostering discipline, encouraging self-expression, and instilling a love for the art of dance, I hope to inspire each of my students to discover their own potential and find joy in their journey as artists.
